No negativity in this post :-)

I don't mean to always sound like a "negative nancy" and by that, I don't actually mean our favorite Nancy. I had asked David yesterday when he was going to put up a race report (cause I think he did great despite his small obstacles he had), and he said "I don't want to sound like a negative nancy", which sometimes is what he calls me.

It's true.

I'm not that positive, but I am going to try to work on it.

So, I was commenting on blogs last night and saw Stacy put a comment on Lisa's blog. It was something like this "I love how you posted those positives at the end of your post! So often we find ourselves always focussed on the negatives, or worse, looking for a negative in something that others would see as good!". Thanks, Stacy! I really liked that, and it made me sit back and think. I know I'm not fast (or middle of the pack, for that matter) in the tri-sport or running by any means, but I am doing it and that in itself is a LOT, for me. 1 yr ago while Grace and I were watching David do his first ever sprint tri at Parris Island, I had no desire or feeling that I could ever complete one, especially since I didn't even own a road bike at the time and had never completed 1 lap of swimming in a pool. I've improved, and that's only going to go up more. This is going to be my year with improving my capabilities!

Recently, David and I both have realized that the time we spend on swimming each week just isn't cutting it for the results we want. I usually go twice a week for about a 20 min session each. I KNOW this isn't enough. So, we've got to come up with a plan that doesn't hinder our time with the little lady. This means morning workouts are in the near future. Since I'm so slow in the water, I wouldn't be able to cover the distance I need in my 20 min lunchtime swim, so that's got to change. I need to get a new watch that will do laps too, so I can keep track of my drills, etc. My current one only does the stopwatch. While I'm at it, my goggles need replacing. They are ick. Yesterday, we were both in the pool. It went okay, but afterwards I was whooped for the remainder of the day. So, I didn't run last night.

Mon: Swim 750yds 18:20 (2:26 /100yds)

Today at lunch, I went for a short run. It went fantabulous. I am having some tightness in my left (of course - left leg always) calf and had to stop a few times to rub it down some. We've GOT to find that stick Grace lost. I'm just gonna buy another one today!

Tues: Run 3.0 mi 28:33 (9:31/mi)
Splits 9:44 / 9:24 / 9:17 Woo Hoo!!!

Details of the workouts are in my log (over there ---->).

In other boring news, I bought some aero bars for my bike! David did the shopping for me. I think this will help especially while I'm on the trainer. So many times, I'd like to lean down and just don't. I think these will help as I possibly get into the longer distances.

I think that's about it for terrific Tuesday! Tonight is our long awaited return to our Church group get-together. We haven't been together in 3 wks, so I'm looking forward to seeing our good friends, and Grace is excited about seeing her friend, Maddi. Have a great day, Ya'll!

Sounds like a great plan! But you know how I feel about that morning stuff! I want to avoid it at all costs but that can't always be done!

That was an awesome run you had today, with great times (esp considering the stopping)! I am going to have to try that POSE method Paul was talking about.

love to see your positive side! And thanks for the shout out! I know I find myself hard on myself as well... when we have a down day (in our eyes), we just need to remind ourself that we are doing stuff that some people don't or just can't!

BTW... if it matters... no "e" in my name! hehehe. No biggie!

You are becoming quite the triathlete and I love that you and David are able to share that "hobby"!

FANTABULOUS!

I love this post Mendy! First, great job on the Parris Island Tri! You did such a great job and you DID IT! Sooooo proud of you!

Second, I love, love, love the positive thinking plan. I truly think that is 90% of the battle, but you already knew I thought that ;) Pretty unbelievable to think that we can hold so much power over our lives merely by thinking good thoughts :)

OMG, great running and great attitude. :D I think David should change it to Negative Nellie. hee hee

I am a big Anthony Robbins fan, one thing he says that sticks to me...if you want to change how you react to something, you have to change your perspective on what that thing means. By going back a year and looking at your progress, you totally changed how you think of where you are now. That is awesome.

You HAVE come a long way baby, and you should be really proud of that.

XOXO

What a fannnntabulous year you've had!

Just the fact that you and David share a hobby, the love of a sport and are continually supporting one another, think of the great things you are teaching your little Sweet-Pea! Kudos all round, oh and all the things that you are teaching me, THANKS!

Great job on your run!

As per the "negativity": I think there's a balance between sunny optimism (I can't help it, the cynic in me always wonders about people who are perpetually positive -- what kind of drugs are they on?) and frowny pessimism (well, that just prompts a person to find some drugs). I think we all need a little of both.

Welp, its official, you're contagious!

I've decided I'm gonna schedule something’s & be positive about it.

I AM a 'Negative Nancy' (my mom has always said Nellie).

So I have a few things to look forward too. I'm looking at some VERY beginner running programs & next Wednesday I'm going up to our Rec center & see if the TRI team coaches have a running coach I could borrow for a (small) fee a few times to get me on track.

My dr appointment is on Tuesday -- which is my hold out for officially scheduling/paying for anything.

Maybe its true Positive things happen to Positive people??? One way to find out! :o)
