Race goals

Since I've been back from Javafest, I've had a lot to think of concerning races and just running in general.

I am trying to set up my race goals for the year. Yes, I am late doing this. Figuring I already did one race in Jan, I just might shoot for 1 race per month, or 12 races (any distance) total for the entire year. Because, once it gets hot here, there aren't many races to do in those summer months. Like others, I'd like to do several different distances, like the 8K, and 10K. I haven't done a 10K since living in Dallas many, many years ago. So, here's my ideas, and these are definitely "draft" as of now.

Jan - RnR Half-Marathon - done.
Feb - MB Half-Marathon
Mar - Parris Island Sprint Triathlon
Apr - Charleston Cooper River Bridge Run (10K)
Jun - Sunrise 8K
Aug - Greenville Sprint Triathlon
Aug - VA Beach Half-Marathon (right Javafesters?)
Nov - Greenville Half-Marathon

I've updated my sidebar with my wish-list, so to speak. With David and I both training for different races at the same time, and with the obligation of Reserves, and of course, our first priority, Grace, it's going to be hard to mesh our schedules. But, we'll have to meet in the middle.
I want a few 5K's, an 8K or 10-miler. I also would like 2 more Half's to make it 6 total Half-Marathons for the year. Any ideas? They have to be in this general area or at least East Coast-ish.

So, I know it's aggressive, but I'm gonna make this year my year for the Half. I really like that distance, and now I know I can even run it with severe cramps, so It's all really uphill from here, hopefully. I know I still need to see a sports Dr for my left leg, and will try to do that in a few weeks.

Here's a couple of signs, I pulled off the PFChangs RnR site. I remember seeing these, and thought they were great!

I snapped this one. My feet were hurting - it was the longest I had ran on them.

...and my favorite!

And it was good!!

Today, I finally went for a run. It snowed here last night and today wasn't quite as icy as we'd hoped. So, I had to go to work and had a very busy day. I was hoping to stay in today, and get caught up on reading blogs and surfing the net, but didn't. After work, I took off to get it done and it was refreshing running in the last bits of snow around me. Very different run. I returned so David could take off. So, I'm relaxing now.

3 miles
30:56 (10:19)

Well, you're ahead of me in making out a schedule for the year. I just know of some goals I want to acheive, and a rough idea of the SCTS races I want to do (and not do).

I really think it's great that you are driven to do this, and it's totally do-able with both our schedules. If I ever get to bed at a decent hour, I can always start running early.

(figure the odds...)

Awesome schedule! Good luck with it. I hope your leg heals and the cramps go away and time slows down and and and :-)

The VA one looks interesting, very interesting ;-) Maybe a possible "Musical 26.2" metal for all of us?!?

Check out the Boilermaker; it's a 15K in Utica, NY that is an absolutely BLAST to run, and definitely worth a trip. Honestly, people are shoulder to shoulder cheering for the whole 9.3 miles, and the post-race party is phenomenal - lots of free beer (and lots of signs along the way reminding you of that). It's the biggest 15K in the country.

I like the idea of a race wishlist; I should do that...

Your list looks awesome!! I love the half distance as well..it's just long enough to be a real struggle but short enough to have a quick recovery. Looks great!

It all looks like a good plan! I envy how you can balance all those things - husband, sweet baby girl, job, Reserves... wow.

Funny - I was going through my PFC bag last night looking at all the pamphlets and I pulled the VA one aside... if I can get a job and get Clay to quit giving me the what-planet-are-you-living-on looks when I suggest another trip maybe I can swing it! Would be sooo fun! ;)

Hang in there and enjoy that snow for me!

Looks like a great schedule, Mendy!

When I was in NC this past week, someone recommended that bridge run to me and it looks AWESOME! Now if only I could find a way to justify traveling to Charleston for a 10K race....... :)

ooooooooo, I'm a little bit jealous. I put the list on hold til I achieve better shape, but maybe I should put some races on the horizon. I actually think it would be better if hub were trying to fit them in like David is. At least you don't feel guilty then about the schedule, you both contribute, give and take, etc. Looks like a great year!! Nice run, too!

Yahoo for the planks going on over there!!! Glad I got you going. ( I don't do "several sets" though, no way!!!)

I was just looking through my google search stats. Someone typed in "Nancy Princess Mendy" and got my blog. I was cracking up!!

What is this 10K you and Tiff speak of? Is it worth traveling for?

Generally speaking, I am more inclined toward the VA Beach or Greenville halves.

Being a Cincinnati girl, I'm partial to the Flying Pig in May (they have all distances: marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k). But that Charleston bridge race also sounds pretty cool to me!

I will take these proposed races under consideration and VA Beach my be the most doable, but I probably won't decide on that until Feb or March: we have a lot going on in those two months, so I have to focus on my two upcoming halves and then think about where to go from there.

If it were close by, I'd be in in a heartbeat, but bcause I have to look at travel costs, greater cosideration must be taken.

BTW, I have driven through Greenville before. It's a very pretty area.

Love the goals for 2008. HM distance is a great race to train and run in. makes is possible when you have limited time.

I am still surprised the post race beer did not send your tommy running for the hills. I know that you had some problems durning the race.

Love all of the pictures that everyone is posting. Javafest #2... where will it be???? No doubt that you guys will make it happen again.

Better late then never with the schedule, right? Your schedule of events looks wonderful. Have you done the Greenville Sprint Tri before?
