slacker alert

I’m such a (blog)slacker.

I can’t believe it’s been this long since I last updated my blog. Life just seems to keep getting in the way. At least I’m still training/working out, right? I’m sorry you kind blogging friends. I will get caught up this week fo’ sho.

Since I’ve been giving old friends I’ve come across on facebook, and new friends my blog address, I suppose I better update it regularly.

LOTS o’ stuff going on.

We both are training and it seems to be going well. David hit a new PR for his 500’s in the pool and is now attempting to break that PR. As you may have read on his blog, he did 5 straight days of swimming in an attempt to get more efficient and what’s better – faster. So, not that I will ever be a fast swimmer, I’m attempting the same thing. I did day 3 in a row yesterday and I can feel it. I’m tired, and just plain whipped. I have 2 more to go. I've been doing 2 training sessions a day and I think my body is used to it. I'm either running/swimming, or biking/swimming. Next week, I will focus on the bike more. Then, the week after - Running.

On the subject of swimming, Grace started her first set of swim lessons last week. Today is her last day of the first session. She will probably do another (same) class just to make sure she’s ready to move up. We’ll get her progress report tomorrow and just go ahead and get her signed up for the next class, maybe. So far, she is doing great and LOVES the water. It’s giving us a chance to take turns getting in some laps too.

At my employer, there is a “Shape up the Nation” competition. Our company has around 28 teams of 5-11 people. There are 3 categories to compete in: weightloss, hrs per week exercise, and steps per day. We all got a bag of goodies that included water bottle and pedometer and some other stuff. Everyone has to compete in the steps division. Our team (5 of us) joined as a team. We are a tight-knit team. This is the first week and it goes for 12 wks. Our leader has put together a spreadsheet so we can daily input everything then at the end of every 2 wks, we update the site. So far, there’s trash talking and such (of course) between teams. So far, we’re doing great. At the end of the first 2 wks, we will be able to see where our competition lies.

Speaking or work, I survived layoffs!!!! Yippee for me! They happened last Tuesday, and I guess all the work I do for the company has paid off, cause they decided to keep me. It really puts things in perspective and I’m just blessed to have a job. I’m making myself more valuable too.

The getting-the-house-ready-for-sale situation is poking along quite slow. But, that’s none other than our own fault. We both had drill last weekend, so nothing got accomplished. We did finish all of our major painting. And, I packed up a lot of junk. We’re going to work more on it this weekend and get more stuff packed up. Hopefully, we can get stuff in storage next week if all goes well this weekend. We want it listed by Aug 1. We met with a bank, and are meeting with another one on Monday. We hope something comes from it. We have our builder pricing our plan so keep your fingers crossed for us for what we hope it gets priced at. 

David, Grace and I never seem to take a vacation that doesn’t include a race. So, we are going to go to Chucktown (Charleston, SC) next weekend for a little mini-vacation playing on the beach, jumping around in the pool, and eating at some fabulous restaurants in the low-country, and enjoying the history we love about Charleston.

That said, we are going to flip a coin to see who gets to do the triathlon down there next weekend. 

Ya’ll my shins are killing me. I mean I run, they start hurting after several runs, I rest, ice, etc, etc and I still get them. I know I’m in the right shoes, as I’ve done that test several times. I’ve got a call in to a sports massage place that specializes in sports related injuries.

I got my hair “done up” yesterday. I got it highlighted, layers trimmed and some dark streaks in it too. I don’t have pictures yet, but will get David to snap one tonight so I could show ya’ll.

Loving the morning workouts and hope to keep my body used to it. I get up at 5:45 on tues, wed, and thur to run and bike. We run tues and thur and bike wed. It’s great to get the workout done and over with so I can swim or do something else at lunch and have my evening available.

I found out 2 wks ago that I didn’t get advanced to CPO. I don’t know why. My record was spotless and a lot of Chiefs and other s don’t know why I wasn’t chosen. Next year is going to be my year! I did get more responsibility and a promotion in my leadership within my unit so that will help my evaluation look better.

Our workplace is going through major changes with people moving out of other buildings and back into the original building. So cubes were moved, and I had a huge task of moving my lab area. The new lab is almost set up and ready to go, but these last 2 wks at work has been tough on all of us with all the moving. I’m in my new cube and love it, but still have boxes to unpack.

This weekend Grace is getting her picture taken, and we are working on packing and finishing projects, and 2 cookouts to go too – one for David’s triathlon team and one with our Church friends. I plan on a long ride and a medium run, if I can. I may just have to wrap my shin up. If I can get into the massage place this week, we’ll see what he says.

I’ve been so out of touch with you all and really, truly miss reading about your training and lives. It’s not by choice. With Grace’s lessons finishing up this week, we should have a slower week next week and this weekend shouldn’t be too bad. I will definitely read all my favorite blogs this weekend. Until then, I hope you all are doing well.

You guys better get faster in the pool cause Grace is going to be LAPPING you soon!!

That really sucks about your promotion. The government moves in mysterious ways. They don't even understand themselves :-D

Oooh, oooh! Take me to Charleston! I don't eat much. I can Grace-sit :-)

I've been a slacker too. I have my first half in 3 weeks & I'm starting to get a little nervous.

I'm so happy when I get my run in in the AM, but I have to get up at 445 be out the door by 5 to be back before hubby goes off to work. So, I've been tryignto get it in after work, except its DANGEROUS hot, so I've been on teh TM.....which I kinda like. I liek that it keeps me paced.....I still REALLY struggle with that on the road.

Grace looks adorable!

I know the feeling in being a blogging slacker. It seem slik eit comes in spurts and especailly during hte summer when the kids ar ehome from school, vacation are happening and racing season is in full swing. Don't feel too bad.

I'm glad to hear that dodged the axe. Ouch! I've been there before after working with BI-LO for 8.5 years and it was a tough time.

Glad that things are doign well.
