It's 1:18AM, and I am just now getting into bed (with my laptop). I'm never up this late...
I went to the gym this evening for an elliptical workout, while David went on the group ride. We took off at the same time, he one way and Grace and I the other. After my workout, I picked Grace up from the nursery and headed home. My cell was in my gym back, and I threw it in the trunk. We got home, and as I was getting Grace out of the car, I heard David's ring tone, wondering why he was calling... Except, it wasn't him - It was Clay, a fellow rider. This is what I heard: "Mendy, this is Clay - I was riding with David on the ride tonight - he's alright, but he's been in an accident". I was silent, silent... and thought "okay, it could have been worse". After the phone passed back and forth a few times between Clay, another lady, and David (Yes, he got on the phone and said "I'm fine"), I decided to come to get David at someone's house. Then, on my way, I got another call "He's going to need to go to the hospital". OH MY!! Is this worse than what everyone is telling me. Cause David and Clay both told me it wasn't that bad, a few scrapes and some blood. Men!!!!!
He was going very fast around some corners, hit some sand, came off his bike, and crashed his face into the side rail of a bridge. The fork on his bike broke in half! !He'll tell us exactly how it happened tomorrow...
Grace and I got to the "scene", a winding road out in the sticks. I was told "The road curves, winds, and goes over a small bridge, we're on the other side if it". Well, we got to the road, where it curves. I saw a firetruck and the guy led me around the other side of it and through the trees I saw all these lights of: 2 ambulances, another firetruck, a fire rescue, and a police car. Ya'll, I was freaked out, BAD! I got out of the car, shaking, and very nervous and went to see him, and It was BAD. David was already joking, trying to make it seem like it wasn't bad. But, all I saw was blood, and his nose being attended to. Everyone there took good care of him. We hung out there for a while, while his vitals were checked, I signed some paperwork, saw his bike - Oh MY (pictures will come later), and we were off.
He got seen pretty quick, but as we were in the waiting room, I could tell how bad he was cut up. The Dr's said that his abrasions on his body were like burns and so we need to treat them that way. He had great nurses, and Dr. taking care of him (and Grace and me) all evening! X-Rays, shots, scraping the concrete out of his shoulders, cleaning wounds, stitching up his lip, and pulling parts of his skin his mouth/nose. We finally got out of there at about 11:30, then over to Walgreens for some drugs. Picked up some Wendy's for all of us, except all that David could have is the Frosty, because he can't chew for the inside of his mouth is painful. His nose and chin's skin are gone, upper lip had a hole in it (now stitched up). I can't even count the wounds he has all over his body, seriously, bandages everywhere..., one leg, both full arms, both shoulders.
He's sitting here beside me right now, surfing ya'll's blogs, and get this --- already looking for a replacement Fork for his bike and wheels. He feels like crap, can't get comfortable (drugs hasn't kicked in), with his nose bothering him so bad. I feel awful for him. I'll be home with him all day tomorrow and plan on taking good care of him. He has some recovery ahead of him.
I'm happy the other riders were there to take care of him and help him get in touch with me.
If you're the praying type, please put David in your prayers. He's definitely going to be alright, but, we are thanking the Lord right now he's alive. The bridge he crashed into had about a 15-20 ft drop with big rocks down below. He came close to falling over that bridge. This whole situation could have turned out much, much worse, and for that - I am thankful.
So, Grace was put to bed in her clothes she wore today, with chips and a rice krispy treat for supper. She's happy, she got a Bugs Bunny bandaid from the nurses for her boo-boo and kept telling Daddy "Look at my booboo". She went home with stickers, coloring book and crayons. We were there ALL evening... I'm tired, but won't go to sleep til I see David close his eyes. So, now it's 2:15, and I'm gonna close for now. David will post tomorrow when he's a little sober from the drugs.

Geez! I saw the bent tire wheels on David's blog, and immediately skipped over here to see if you'd provide the full story. My god! That's a bad accident.
I will send good vibes his way. In the meantime, I suggest vicodin and a beer -- he'll sleep like a baby while his body heals up :)
I followed the trail too . . . .man that sounds BAD, BAD, BAD! I'm so happy that he's "OK" (meaning it wasn't anything worse) (((HUGS))) guys!! Ohh Mendy what an ordeal, I think getting that type of call is a person's worst nightmare.
Definitely will send the "recovery" vibes his way. I agree with Jess, a little pain killers a little liquor in Grace's sippy cup and he should be good to go ;-)
Holy crap, Mendy! I'm so sorry about David's bike ;-) No, seriously. I'm glad that worse possible scenario was avoided and David will be back to his old self in no time. I'll send some good resting/healing vibes y'all's way. Give Dave my best...
We are praying he heals fast. Hang in yourself and if you need anything just call!
Oh man, Mendy!! I read that with my heart beating so fast. I am so glad he is "ok". I will be praying for fast healing for him!! Give him a big hug but don't tell him it's from me. ;>)
The hardest part is being so far away and feeling so helpless...I wish I could bring you dinner or something.
OMG! Oh I am so glad that it didn't turn out worse. Like Lisa, I wish there was something I could do...bring over food, lotion, booze, anything. I am so glad to hear how well Grace did with it all, too. That is so scary for a little one. Thank God that he was watching over your husband.

Hi, Mendy.
You don't know me, but I am a running friend of JavaMom's (and fellow mommy) and found your blog through hers.
I hope David (and you!) are doing better today. That must have been so scary!! I could just imagine how awful his body must feel!
Big hugs to both of you!!!!
thinking of you... I know it's just as rough for the loved one as the injured during times like this.
Wow! I can't even imagine. I laughed a little when you said that he was already making jokes when you got there... so David!
I know I'm a little late reading the news. How's he doing now? Been back to work?
We love you guys!
