Was I the only one that worked today?

Happy Memorial Day!!

Unfortunately, I seemed to be the ONLY one in my neighborhood that had to work, as I saw every car still home as I left for work. Luckily, Lava Java (my favorite, local coffee shop) was open to get my caffeine fix. I shouldn't have had to work - Afterall, I'm a veteran and reservists. Oh well.. Guess the 'ole company doesn't look at it that way. Even co-worker, Jason, seemed to have the day off - Dog.. j/k

Swim - 500yds (15:18)
I headed over to the Y for my monday lunch swim. David was going to meet me (He and Grace spent the day together, since he didn't have to work). When he got there with Grace, the Y nursery had closed already, so they watched me swim, then Grace and I watched David swim. I just wasn't into it today. Don't know if it was because it was SOOO crowded, due to everyone (BUT ME) was off, or that I knew he was watching me. Whatever, it was - I suffered in my swim today. I was struggling a little on breathing, and arm strokes were off. Oh well...

Yesterday, David mentioned "You should get up in the morning and go for a ride on your bike". I said "Yes, I should". I didn't and have a guilty feeling of not doing it. Why didn't I? I'm still petrified of traffic, and being out on the road by myself. I've got to get over this, and push beyond my comfort zone and just do it. He even mentioned a great route, that shouldn't have too much traffic on it. The mornings will be a good time for me to ride, so I'm going to try it this week. Tomorrow is a run or speed work. Haven't decided yet.

So, even though we had to work, we were let go at 3:30, woohoo. We've had a nice family evening together. We took Grace out to play ball, and let her swing, then took a short walk, Topped it off with a small bowl of (low fat) ice cream on the back porch. Yummy...

I soooo had more fun than you today! :-p Neener, neener, neener.

Grace and I were happy to have you back, though. Nothing like family time in the evening...Well, maybe a quick "family time" at lunch! :-D

Being out on the bike in traffic can take a little getting used to. I've found that most if not all folks are very nice. You should get comfortable with it on some quieter roads at your own pace :-)

Every swim can't be a great one! Keeps us honest!!

Hate that you had to work...that sucks, especially being a vet. But it ended good with your time with Gracie...she is so cute.

I think I can understand your fear of riding your bike in traffic, even with nice folks around...there are way too many young drivers who don't keep their attention on what is going on around them. Maybe look for a park where you can ride.

I was also scared riding in traffic at first. I still don't ride with the traffic except coming and going from the canal I ride by. Just try starting out with shorter distances. I was stuck riding four miles forever because it was all I was comfortable with (and my legs would get dead tired). Now every time I am out driving I am looking for spots to ride. You can do it!!

I don't blame you for being scared!!! I totally would be too! Just think, it could be worse. I'm sure once you get the hang of it, it will be a little more relaxing ;D You can totally do it!!!

Cute pics!!! Looks like you definitely had a nice family evening together!!

Getting up early is not always fun or easy but it does give you the greatest feeling once you start your day!!

I'm with you on being careful riding in traffic. I go out for my on-the-road rides early in the morning on the weekends when the drunks and kids are all still in bed. I also ride in places where there is a dedicated bike lane and low speed limits. Fortunately, Goodyear, AZ as so many new communities built in the last 10 years, most of the roads all have bike lanes. That helps a lot.

Keep at it and be safe.
